What is SIG1...

The Special Interest Group on Transport and Spatial Development focuses on the research on interaction between transport and spatial development, including modeling land use -transport interaction, land value changes as long-term effects of infrastructure improvement, pricing, Benefit /Burden analysis and the environmental changes. It organizes special session series in each WCTR conference every three years and also separate seminars, symposiums and workshops between WCTR's. The SIG1 has held a seminar in December 1993 in Blackheath, Australia which was the first meeting where world class land use-transport experts gathered to discuss the above topic, covering fact finding, scenario analysis and modeling, followed by a seminar on infrastructure and the environment in July 1995 in Cairns, Australia.

Recent meetings include Seoul SIG1 workshop with 30 participants, Nagoya symposium with 20 participants both in July 2002 just after WCTR Seoul conference. Also it has published two books, two special issues of technical journals. Now the co-chairs are Yoshitsugu Hayashi (Nagoya University, Japan) and Michael Wegener (University of Dortmund, Germany). Professor Kenji Doi is the SIG1 Web manager.
