การอนุรักษ์มรดกทางสถาปัตยกรรม การอนุรักษ์งานศิลป์ และการออกแบบเพื่อการอนุรักษ์สถาปัตยกรรมและชุมชน จำเป็นต้องมีพื้นฐานความรู้ความเข้าใจต่อทฤษฎีมรดกวัฒนธรรมที่เกี่ยวข้องที่ครอบคลุมวิธีการและกระบวนการด้านการอนุรักษ์มรดกทางสถาปัตยกรรมเสียก่อน จึงจะนำความรู้ วิธีการ และ กระบวนการด้านการอนุรักษ์และคุ้มครองมรดกทางวัฒนธรรมดังกล่าวไปแก้ปัญหาด้านการออกแบบที่เกี่ยวข้องได้อย่างเหมาะสม
