Use of the optical line is not guaranteed. If the provider guarantees the following two points, however, you can use the optical line without Canon's guarantee.
Telephone speech quality is equivalent to that of general lines.
The line is Super G3 compatible.
For the specifications of the line that you are using, contact your authorized telephone company.
The optical line performs packet communications. If packets are missing or late, the line can temporarily provide audio. There are cases, however, when a communication error occurs as a result of packets missing or arriving late, and fax messages may not be transmitted properly. If this happens, change the <RX Start Speed> setting.
If you continue to experience the problem after changing the speed, contact your provider.
Faxes cannot be printed, or the images on printouts are spotted or distorted.
See the following section:

Set <Reduce RX Size> to <On> before adjusting.
The reception speed is too slow.
Contact the sender and verify that the resolution of the sender's machine has been set properly.
