Checking the Computer Settings
In order to save scanned documents as files in the computer's shared folders, it is necessary to prepare the computer side in addition to setting up the printer's file sending functions.
Perform the following steps to make sure that the functions required for setting the computer name and shared folders are installed.
Confirming the Computer Name
A computer name is required for setting up shared folders and for specifying the destination.
Confirm the computer name as follows.
NOTE
Computer Name
The computer name confirmed here is needed by "How to Save to a File Server (A Shared File Server)." We recommend that you make a note of it so that you do not forget.
1.
Log in to Windows with administrator privileges.
2.
Display the [System] screen.
Windows XP/Server 2003
From the [Start] (or [start]) menu, select [Control Panel] and click on [Performance and Maintenance] - [System].
Windows Vista/7/Server 2008 R2
From the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel] and click on [System and Security] or [System and Maintenance] - [System].
Windows Server 2008
From the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel] and then double-click [System].
3.
Check computer name.
Windows XP/Server 2003
1. Double-click [Computer Name] or [Network ID].
2. Click [Change] or [Properties].
3. Confirm [Computer Name].
Windows Vista/7/Server 2008
1. Confirm [Computer name].
4.
Close the [System] screen.
Checking Items (Network Components) Required for Setting
Check whether items (network components) required for setting up shared folders are installed in your computer.
1.
Perform the following procedure.
Windows XP
From the [start] menu, select [Control Panel], and click on [Network and Internet Connections] - [Network Connections].
Windows Vista
From the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel], and click on [View network status and tasks] - [Manage Network Connections].
Windows 7/Server 2008 R2
From the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel], and click on [View network status and tasks] - [Change adapter settings].
Windows Server 2003
From the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel] - [Network Connections] - [Local Area Connection].
Windows Server 2008
From the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel] double-click [Network and Sharing Center], and click [Manage network connections].
2.
Display the [Local Area Connection Properties] screen.
Windows XP/Vista/7/Server 2008
Right-click the icon for [Local Area Connection] and select [Properties] from the pop-up menu.
Windows Server 2003
Click [Properties].
When [User Account Control] appears
Click [Yes] or [Continue].
3.
Check items (network components) required for setting up shared folders.

Make sure that the check boxes for the following items are selected.
(Select them if they are not selected.)
[Client for Microsoft Networks]
[File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks]
[Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)] ( or [Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)])

Click [OK].
NOTE
If the Required Items Are Not Installed
Install them as follows.
1.
Click [Install].
2.
Select [Type] according to the item to be installed, and click [Add].

(or [Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)])

Select the item to be installed, and click [OK].
If [Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)] (or [Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)]) Is Not Installed
It is necessary to set the computer's IP address. Contact your network administrator for assistance.
4.
Restart your computer if necessary.
