Problem 1
A paper jam occurred inside the machine while the copy image was being adjusted.
Action
Remove the jammed paper and reset.
Problem 2
The toner ran out while the copy image was being adjusted.
Action
Replace the toner cartridge with new one.
Problem 3
The transfer belt has dirt.
Action
Clean the transfer belt.
<Cannot find access point.>
Problem 1
When setting up using the WPS function, the machine could not detect wireless LAN router or access points.
Action
Repeat the setup again using the WPS function.
Push Button Mode: Press the WPS button within two minutes from the start of the search for an access point.
"Setting the Machine Using WPS (Push Button Mode)"
PIN code mode: Enter the PIN code from a computer to the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point within 10 minutes of the start of the search for an access point.
"Setting the Machine Using WPS (PIN Code Mode)"
 "Entering the PIN Code in the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point"
For details on how to push the WPS button or to enter PIN code, refer to the instruction manual for your wireless LAN routers and/or access points or contact their manufactures.
Problem 2
The SSID of the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point was not entered correctly using the manual input settings.
Action
If the settings of the wireless LAN router/access point have been changed, the settings have not been marked or you are unsure of them, check the SSID of the wireless LAN router or access point using Canon MF/LBP Wireless Setup Assistant.
Problem 3
Network problems are preventing the machine from detecting the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point.
Action
Check network connection.
If the access point cannot be determined even after checking the network connection, check the security settings on the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point.
<Cannot send because more than one destination is set.>
Problem
You are restricted to send a fax to multiple destinations simultaneously.
Action
You need to disable the restriction. Contact your administrator for more information.
<Cannot specify a group.>
Problem
A group was specified as the destination after the Hook key has been pressed.
Action
Do not press the Hook key when specifying a group destination.
<Cannot use USB hub. Check hub.>
Problem
A USB memory is connected via a USB hub.
Action
Connect a supported USB memory to the machine directly.
<Cannot write.>
Problem 1
The memory media was disconnected while it was being written to, and writing failed.
Action
Check to see if the memory media was disconnected, and try writing again.
Problem 2
An error occurs when transferring images to memory media, and images cannot be transferred normally. (It is possible that the connected memory media is formatted with an unsupported file system.)
Action
Check the status of the memory media and whether it is formatted with a file system that is supported by the machine (FAT16 or FAT32). After checking, try again.
<Cart. parts life end. Replcmnt. recommended.>
Problem
Toner cartridges with print quality that cannot be guaranteed due to their decreasing lifetime etc., or used toner cartridges that have reached their lifetime, may have been inserted.
Action
Press [OK] to allow the printer to continue printing in its present state. However, these cartridges may cause malfunctions so replacing the cartridges is recommended.
<Cart. parts life end. XXXX replcmnt. recmnd.>
Problem
Toner cartridges with print quality that cannot be guaranteed due to their decreasing lifetime etc., or used toner cartridges that have reached their lifetime, may have been inserted.
Action
These cartridges may cause a malfunction, so replacing these cartridges with new cartridges is recommended.
<Cleaning failed.>
Problem 1
A paper jam occurred while the fixing unit was being cleaned.
Action
Clear the paper jam and reload paper.
Problem 2
The toner ran out completely while the fixing unit was being cleaned.
Action
See the following to view the onscreen instructions and fix the problem.
<Close back cover.>
Problem
Close the back cover completely.
Action
Check to make sure that the back cover is completely closed.
<Close front cover.>
Problem
The front cover is not completely closed.
Action
Check to make sure that the front cover is completely closed.
<Connect computer.>
Problem
Your computer is not connected to the machine when you try to scan a document from it.
Action
Connect the computer.
<Connect the memory media.>
Problem
Cannot save scanned data to USB memory. USB memory is not connected.
Action
Connect a supported USB memory.
<Could not connect. Check PSK settings.>
Problem
The network key (PSK) for the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point is not setup in the machine correctly.
Action 1
Check the wireless LAN or access point you are using, enter the correct network key (PSK) and repeat the setup again.
For information on how to check the network key (PSK), refer to the Operation Manual of the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point, or contact the manufacturer.
Action 2
If the network key (PSK) is correct, check the network connection.
<Could not connect. Check security settings.>
Problem
Connection failed because settings for your wireless LAN routers and/or access points are different from security settings of the machine.
Action
Check the security settings of the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point, and repeat the setup again.
<Could not connect. More than one access point was detected.>
Problem
Other wireless LAN routers or access points within connection range were detected.
Multiple wireless LAN routers and/or access points cannot be connected simultaneously by holding down their respective WPS buttons.
Action
Wait for a while and try again.
<Dept. ID is not set. Register from Remote UI.>
Problem
Attempted to enable <Dept. ID Management On/Off>, but no department IDs are registered.
Action
Register the Dept. ID from the Remote UI.
<Incorrect Size/Setting>
Problem
The correct paper size is not specified.
Action
See the following to view the onscreen instructions and fix the problem.
<Insert the correct color toner in the correct slot.>
Problem
The toner cartridge is not inserted in the correct slot.
Action
Insert the toner cartridge of the indicated color in the correct slot.
<Insert XXXX toner cartridge.>
Problem
The toner cartridge is not inserted.
Action
Insert the toner cartridge of the indicated color.
<Memory is full.>
Problem 1
Faxes could not be sent or received due to insufficient memory.
Action 1
If there are jobs waiting to be sent or printed, fax your document once all these jobs are completed.
Action 2
Print, send, or delete jobs stored in memory.
Action 3
Split a high-volume document into two subsets and send one subset at a time.
Action 4
Reduce the scanning resolution and send the document again.
Problem 2
The USB memory capacity is full.
Action
Delete data stored in the memory or connect a new USB memory.
<Memory is full. Enter original type settings again. >
Problem
You cannot copy your document as memory became full in the middle of processing it.
Action
Set <Original Type> to <Text/Photo (Quality)> before you make a copy.
<Memory is full. Scanning canceled. Print?>
Problem 1
Failed to scan the documents because of the shortage of memory capacity.
Action 1
Select whether you print all the documents which were able to be scanned or whether you cancel the job.
Action 2
Divide the documents into two, and then copy them.
Problem 2
When copies were collated, all the pages could not be scanned.
Action 1
Select whether you print all the documents which were able to be scanned or whether you cancel the job.
Action 2
For a copy job, divide the document into two or set <Original Type> to <Text/Photo (Quality)> before copying.
<Memory Media is restricted.>
Problem
Saving scanned data to USB memory is restricted.
Action
The setting needs to be changed in order to save to USB memory. Contact your administrator for more information.
<More than one destination is set. Send?>
Problem
This message automatically appears when you specify multiple destinations.
Action
If you do not want to display this message, you need to change the setting. Contact your administrator for more information.
<New destinations are restricted. >
Problem 1
The current settings do not allow you to specify new destinations.
Action
If you want to specify new destinations, you need to disable the setting. Contact your administrator for more information.
Problem 2
The current settings do not allow you to register new destinations or edit the destinations registered in the address book.
Action
If you want to register new destinations or edit the registered destinations, you need to change the setting. Contact your administrator for more information.
<No Paper>
Problem 1
There is no paper in the paper cassette or multi-purpose tray (manual feed slot).
Action
Load paper.
Problem 2
The paper size specified to print a report or list is not appropriate.
Action
Set the paper size to < A4> or <LTR> to print a report or list and load the paper size specified into the paper cassette or multi-purpose tray (manual feed slot).
<No registered destinations.>
Problem
No destination is registered in the coded dial code that you pressed.
Action
Register a destination.
<No response from host.>
Problem
The machine is not connected to the network, or the connection is not properly configured.
Action
Connect the machine to the network and properly configure the connection.
See the Starter Guide.
<No response.>
Problem 1
The receiving fax machine did not respond within 35 seconds.
Action
Repeat the sending procedure from the beginning. Additionally, ask the recipient to check the fax machine. When making an overseas call, add a pause to the fax number.
Problem 2
The receiving fax machine may not be a G3 fax machine.
Action
Make sure the receiving fax machine is a G3 fax machine. If it is a G3 fax machine, send the document again. Otherwise, switch to the communication mode supported by the receiving fax machine and send the document again.
<Number is already registered. Enter new number.>
Problem
You tried to add the number which is being used for the departmental ID management to the system manager ID.
Action
Enter the number which is not used for the departmental ID management.
<Number is already registered. Overwrite?>
Problem
You tried to register the number to a coded dial code in which another number is already registered.
Action
Register the number to an unregistered coded dial code.
<Number is incorrect. Enter again.>
Problem
You entered an incorrect ID or PIN.
Action
Enter the correct ID or PIN.
<Numbers do not match. Enter the numbers again.>
Problem
The number that you entered for confirmation does not match the number that you first entered. This message appears when <Fax No. Confirmation Re-Entry> in <Restrict TX Function> in <System Settings> is set to <On>.
Action
Make sure to enter the same number.
<Open authentication failed. Check WEP settings.>
Problem 1
Connection failed because the machine uses "open system" authentication while the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point used is set to "Shared Key" authentication.
Action
Change the WEP authentication method on the machine to <Shared Key> accordingly and configure the settings manually.
For information on how to change authentication method, refer to the Operation Manual of the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point, or contact the manufacturer.
Problem 2
The connection failed because the machine restricted the MAC address and the MAC address filtering was set with the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point you are using.
Action
Change the MAC address for the machine and the computer you are using to the allowed settings.
For information on how to set MAC address filtering, refer to the Operation Manual of the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point, or contact the manufacturer.
<Open back cover; see if orange packing material is removed.>
Problem
After installing the machine, remove the all the packing materials.
Action
Remove the packing materials.

<Open the back cover, remove the protective sheet.>
Problem
Not all of the packing materials were removed after installing the machine.
Action
Remove the packing materials.

<Paper jam.>
Problem 1
Paper is jammed somewhere inside the machine.
Action
Clear the paper jam and load paper and the document again.
Problem 2
Since the paper cassette is not inserted, printing cannot be done from the multi-purpose tray (manual feed slot).
Action
Insert the paper cassette, and then push it into the machine firmly. To resume printing, press [OK].
<Please wait, then try again.>
Problem
Firmware cannot be updated because the machine is processing.
Action
Please wait.
<Prepare XXXX toner cartridge.>
Problem
The toner is running low.
Action
Prepare a new toner cartridge for future replacement with ease.
If the message is displayed during copying or printing (including when printing a report manually), printing the job that is being currently processed is continued.
If the message is displayed during receiving a fax, the received fax is stored in the memory without being printed.
If <Continue Printing When Toner Is Low> in <RX Print Settings> is set to <On>, however, printing is continued. (Printing is continued also when a report is printed automatically.)
<Remove paper from output tray.>
Problem
The output paper is backed up in the output tray.
Action
Remove output paper from output tray.
<Remove tabs/tape from toner cartridge.>
Problem
The tabs/tape of the toner cartridges is not removed after installing the machine or when replacing a toner cartridge.
Action
Remove the tabs/tape.
<Select paper larger than A4/LTR.>
Problem
An incorrect paper size is selected to use the ID Card Copy function.
Action
Specify A4 or LTR sized paper.
<Sending from History is restricted.>
Problem
You are restricted to use the job history for specifying destinations.
Action 1
Specify destinations without using the job history.
Action 2
If you want to use the auto redial function, you need to change the setting. Contact your administrator for more information.
<Set encryption to Auto.>
Problem
Connection failed because the machine uses "AES-CCMP" authentication while the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point used is set to "TKIP" authentication.
Action
Change so that the WPA/APA2-PSK encryption on the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point will become "AES-CCMP", and repeat setup again.
For information on how to change encryption method, refer to the Operation Manual of the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point, or contact the manufacturer.
If you do not change the wireless LAN routers or access points setup, change WPA/WPA2-PSK encryption method for the machine to <Auto> (TKIP or AES-CCMP) and reconfigure them.
<Shared Key auth. failed. Check WEP settings.>
Problem 1
The network key (WEP key) for the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point is not setup in the machine correctly.
Action
Check the wireless LAN or access point you are using, enter the correct network key (WEP key) and repeat the setup again.
For information on how to check the network key (WEP key), refer to the Operation Manual of the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point, or contact the manufacturer.
Problem 2
Connection failed because the machine uses "Shared Key" authentication while the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point used is set to "Open System" authentication.
Action
Change so that the WPE encryption on the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point will become "Shared Key", and repeat setup again. 
For information on how to change authentication method, refer to the Operation Manual of the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point, or contact the manufacturer.
If you do not change the wireless LAN routers or access points setup, change the WEP authentication method of the machine to <Open System> and reconfigure them.
<Turn the main power ON. If problem persists contact dealer or service rep.>
Problem
An error has occurred with the machine.
Action
Turn OFF the power switch, wait 10 seconds, and turn it back ON. If the problem persists, turn OFF the power switch, disconnect the power cord, and contact your local authorized Canon dealer or the Canon help line.
<Unsupported USB device is connected. Check USB device.>
Problem
Unsupported USB memory or other USB device is connected.
Action
Connect a supported USB memory.
<Wireless connection failed.>
Problem
An error occurred with the machine during setup, resulting in communication failure.
Action 1
Turn OFF the machine and turn it back ON, and then repeat the setup again.
Action 2
Check network connection.
If the access point cannot be determined even after checking the network connection, check the security settings on the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point.
<WPS connection failed.>
Problem
An error occurred while performing setup using the WPS function, resulting in failure to connect.
Action
Check that the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point that you are using supports WPS function. If it does, check the network connection.
For information on how to check or setup the WPS function, refer to the Operation Manual of the Wireless LAN Router/Access Point, or contact the manufacturer.
If your wireless LAN router or access point is not WPS capable, manually select a specific wireless LAN router or access point for your network identification.
<XXXX is restricted. Log in?>
Problem
Because the department IDs are managed, available functions are restricted.
Action
You need to change the settings for the department ID management. Contact your administrator for more details.
<You can only forward to destinations registered in the address book.>
Problem
You attempted to forward the document stored in memory to a destination that is not registered in the address book.
Action
Register a destination in the address book.
